Home Study Services

All families must choose one of these options.

Client families residing in Washington, Missouri, or Alaska may choose to have a social worker from Americans Adopting Orphans perform a home study and write the pre-placement report. All families in our adoption programs must choose one of the two following pre-placement report options. If an Americans Adopting Orphans Social Worker does not perform your home study, your home study pre-placement report must undergo a Pre-Placement Report Review.

Home Study with Pre-Placement Report

A home study normally takes about 6 to 8 weeks to complete.

For home studies conducted in WA, MO, and AK, we offer the following services:

• Provide family with autobiographical questionnaires to describe their lives, and the preparations they have made to bring an adopted child into their home.
• Submit state Criminal History and Background Inquiry check forms.
• Interview each adoptive parent individually, and both parents together (for married couples), as well as any other adults or older children in the household. China requires a total of 4 contacts.
• Visit the home of the adoptive family. *(Extra travel fee if more than 10 miles from Americans Adopting Orphans office)
• Review and/or verify medical, employment, financial, and personal reference forms and information.
• Write a pre-placement report satisfying the requirements of U.S. Citizenship & Immigration Services, the State of WA/MO/AK, the foreign government, and Americans Adopting Orphans, including approval status of the family and recommendation for the placement of one or more children.
• Present the client family with a draft of the pre-placement report to review for accuracy before it is finalized and submitted.
• Submit the pre-placement report to the US Immigration (and/or the placing agency for families using our Home Study Only services).
• Suggest or recommend additional reading, counseling, or other resources to assist the family in their preparation for adoption, as appropriate.
• Provide educational and emotional preparation to the family about the changes that multi-cultural adoption will bring to their lives.

Our fee for a Home Study Pre-Placement Report is: $995, for families in Washington and Missouri. Alaska families please add $300 plus travel.

Home Study Pre-Placement Report for WA and MI: $995 ($1045 for credit card or PayPal).

Home Study Pre-Placement Report for AK: $1295 ($1360 for credit card or PayPal).

Pre-Placement Report Review/Coordination and US Immigration Supplement

Client families who live outside of the states of Washington, Missouri, Alaska, or are choosing to use the services of another agency, must submit a draft of the pre-placement report to Americans Adopting Orphans for review. Included with this service are:

• Instructions for the home study provider regarding the content and format of the Home Study.
• Establish an agreement between Americans Adopting Orphans and the other agency to clearly define mutual responsibilities and obligations.
• Copies of Americans Adopting Orphans unique US Immigration Supplement, used to enhance approval by US and foreign authorities and simplify processing at US Consulates overseas.
• Conduct a review of the pre-placement report to insure that it complies with the requirements of the foreign government and US Immigration.
• Provide a written report to the family and the home study provider with our recommendations or requirements for changes.

Our fee for a Pre-Placement Report Review is: $250 ($263 for credit card or PayPal).
